Built in 1999 under the leadership of Madison native, Wisconsin Badger and US Olympic Gold Medalist Bob Suter, Capitol Ice Arena was established to provide opportunities for local youth hockey players to learn the game of hockey and grow the game of hockey in the greater Madison area. Over the last 20+ years, the arena has developed thousands of young skaters and helped in their growth as athletes and individuals, from NHL All-Stars to Olympians, and from doctors to teachers.
The arena, named after Bob Suter in 2014, is a state-of-the-art facility, offering two NHL sized ice sheets for hockey games, practices and recreational skating. The arena underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in 2018, adding the following amenities and upgrades:
The arena has hosted events including the Madison Capitols USHL team, the 2022 USA Curling Mixed Doubles National Championships, IIHF Women's U18 World Championship, and the Middleton Chamber of Commerce Sip, Sample, and Socialize event.
